Mr. James “Ray” Humphries, age 85, of Covington passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020. He was born November 12, 1934 in Pooler, GA to George M. and Thelma Ousley Humphries who have preceded him in death. Mr. Humphries was an amazing dad of his five girls. He loved each one of them unconditionally, and loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren with all of his heart. Ray had friends from all walks of life and truly loved people. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his favorite trophy was achieved while bowling one day and met Ruby Summers who would become his wife and best friend.

Mr. Humphries is survived by his wife Ruby L. Humphries, his daughters and their spouses Debbie Sweat (Ronald), Carla Bruce (Scott), Billie Powell (Chris), Johnnie Ivey (Clay), and Tonya Owens (David), his 39 grandchildren and great grandchildren, his sister Yvonne Beasley (Felton), along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Humphries will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Reverend Mitch Bruce and Reverend Brant Sweat officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Friday, February 21, 2020. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The family has selected J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home to assist them with the funeral arrangements.
