Son of Ruth and James Loyd Haynes. He graduated from Tech High and earned a BBA from UGA in 1942. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army Calvary from 1942-1947. Captain Haynes was a Judge Advocate General and worked directly under General Douglas MacArthur on the Island of Leyte in the Philippines. During his 31 year career in the FBI, he was a Special Agent, Field Supervisor, and Inspector. After retirement, he worked as Corporate Security Director of John H. Harland Co. for 13 years and lectured on check fraud. He served as President of the Atlanta Chapter of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, President of the Georgia Association of Security Professionals, VP of Atlanta Metropol, Chairman for the Law Enforcement Liaison Committee for the American Society for Industrial Security, and member of Georgia Association of Chief of Police, and International Association of Chief of Police. He was a member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Marguerite Shingler Haynes. He is survived by his daughter Laura Haynes Jacobson, son-in-law George Jacobson, and nephews, William J. Haynes and The Rev. D. Fredrick Lindstrom, Jr.
