Maurice E. Jones, 94, of Durant, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at Wilton Retirement Community in Wilton.

Maurice has been cremated and will be placed in a nich next to his wife, Jacquetta, at St. Thomas Aquinas Prayer Garden Columbarium in Ames. A private family service will be held at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Prayer Garden Church in Ames.

Maurice Edwin Jones was born July 28, 1925, in Centerville, the son of Job and Ida Izella (Gedney) Jones. He graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1943. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946, serving aboard the USS Hornet Aircraft Carrier in the South Pacific. After his discharged from service, he attended the Iowa State University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1950. He married Jacquetta Rose Biggie on September 4, 1947 in Centerville. He was employed as an Engineer for HON Company in Muscatine, until retiring in 1987. Jacquetta preceded him in death on April 24, 2014. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, golfing and walking. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and their annual family fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada.

He is survived by one daughter, Maureen (Mark) Heuer of Durant; two sons, Grant (Connie) Jones of Sedalia, MO, and Kevin (Carol) Jones of Ames; one daughter-in-law, Sue Jones of Portland, OR; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Chris Jones, two sisters, Muriel Buss and Irene Fisher and one brother, Robert Jones.
