Selma Jo Smith was born June 22, 1939 in Bell Gardens, CA. Her parents were Oren Selma Norman and Madge Josephine Ashcraft. We all knew her as Jo, as she preferred going by her middle name as she grew up. Jo passed to her heavenly home on July 26, 2016 after struggling for several years with cancer. We praise God that her suffering is finally over and that she is now in the loving arms of her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Robert, her son Steven, her older sister Elizabeth Josseyln, and her precious granddaughter, Ruby Jo, age 4. Jo graduated from Polytechnic High School, Riverside, CA in 1957; Chaffey Jr. College, Alta Loma, CA in 1959 with a AA degree in Business & Merchandising; and from California Baptist College in 1963 with a B.S. degree in Education & Speech. Jo was an elementary school teacher in CA and CO from 1963-1969; was a Regional Assistant with Loomix, Inc. in Loveland, CO from 1982-1985; and was on staff at the First Christian Church in Santa Maria, CA, first as Office Manager from 1985-1991, and then as Business Administrator from 1991-1995. Jo was a multi-talented woman of faith who was a warm and loving friend to all that knew her. She will be terribly missed.
