He was born in Archer Lodge, the son of the late Cleo Thompson and Joshua Otis Barnes. Mr. Barnes was a farmer, owner and operator of C.E. Barnes Store for 57 years, and C.E. Barnes Trucking Co. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, J.O. Barnes, sisters, Nellie Reece Mulhollem, Bertha Castleberry, LaRue Bridges, and Laura Barnes.
