The 1911 census finds John and Emma living with John’s parents in Tavistock, Ontario. Here, John and Jacob operated the Commercial Hotel — Jacob purchased the property around 1908.
By the time of the 1921 census, John, Emma, and a nine-year-old daughter, Marie, lived at 46 John Street, Waterloo, Ontario. (Jacob had retired from the hotel business in 1916.) John was employed by a tire company.
