Deacon Michael "Mike" Ezekiel Grant, the 11 of 13 children, was born on January 9, 1959, in Titusville, Florida to the late Deacon Robert Grant, Sr. (d. 1974) and Laurine Delancy Bell Highsmith Grant (d. 2006). He was a long-time resident of Titusville, Florida.

He attended the public schools of Brevard County Florida. He graduated from Astronaut High School (AHS) in 1977. He was active in the AHS ROTC program and a member of the drill team.

Mike was employed with McDonnell-Douglas, Corporation (MDDC), where he was employed as an electrician. He worked there until the plant closed in 1995. After his employment with MDDC ended, he formed his own electrical business, as a licensed electrician.

On June 6, 1997, Michael married the love of his life, the former Willie Mae Harris Bookhart.

On March 12, 2000, he was ordained as a deacon at Antioch Christain Fellowship Church under the leadership of Pastor Arthur C. Blatch.
