Comment from Jennifer Neff:
Boy Scout Troop #25 began January 31, 1926. It is the second oldest troop in Mahoning County and is still going strong, 81 years later, 2007.
The application for Troop 25 of Canfield shows that $9.00 was paid for a charter on December 14, 1925. Rev. Herbert A. Cassidy, aged 39, clergyman, was listed as the first Scoutmaster. He had prior experience, as he was shown as a scouting official in Chatham, Massachusetts, 1918-19 and in East Youngstown (now known as Campbell) Ohio, 1920-21.
Rev. Cassidy had three sons. One of them, Robert Cassidy became Troop # 25's first Eagle Scout on July 20, 1927. At the time of the charter application he was 13 years old and already a Star Scout. He had previously belonged to Troop # 13 in Ashtabula, Ohio. (At that time the rank before Eagle was Star. Later the order of ranks changed and Life became the rank before Eagle.)
