At an early age he was converted and baptized at Gardner Grove Baptist Church. He later became actively and faithfully involved at Sharon Baptist Church. Upon joining there, he served many in ministries. He was also a faithful member of Sharon Male Chorus.
Born in Baconville, he was the eldest of three children born to Deacon Joe and Lucille Clemons. All preceded him in death. He attended school in Baconville, and Richmond County. He was a Veteran of World War II. He was united in matrimony to Mattie Lee Moss.
