A small family remembrance will be held at a future date for James Everett Kindred, 96, of Coos Bay. Private cremation rites were held at Ocean View Memory Gardens in Coos Bay. James Everett Kindred, better known as "Oot" or "Grandpa Oot" to many, passed away peacefully April 28, 2018 in his home with family at his side.

Everett was born March 26, 1922 in Goodland, Ind., to James Elbert Kindred and Amanda Barbara (Ross) Kindred. At an early age he moved west with his family to Coos Bay which he happily called home for the next 90 years. In 1942 he graduated from Marshfield High School. In 1944 he proudly joined the United States Navy and served on the USS Oconto APA 187 from the time it was commissioned until it was decommissioned after the war.

On April 3, 1947 he married Edna Conliffe. He worked for several businesses and later owned Frank’s Cash Register Co., with his wife and son. After the death of Edna in 1992 he married Lucille Trupp in 1995.

He loved camping, fishing, building and wood working projects. In later years he especially enjoyed his yearly reunion with members of the USS Oconto.

Everett was one of Marshfield High School’s most ardent fans and supporters. Over the last 70 years he was a common sight at the high school stadium watching the competitions as well as practices five to six days a week. His favorites were football and track; but if they weren’t practicing, he would hunt down other venues to watch.

He was one of those honorable kind gentlemen from the “greatest generation” that will be greatly missed by friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille Kindred; his son, Jim Kindred and wife, Chris; daughter, Linda Moehl and husband, Tom; five grandchildren, Lisa Ellington, Nikki Simpson, Christine Moehl, Richard Moehl and David Moehl; seven great-grandchildren, Casey, Tabor, Anya, Madeline, Juliette, Janelle and Elsea; and many nieces and nephews.

Everett was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; sister, Esther Marker; and brother, Vern Kindred.

Arrangements are under the care of Coos Bay Chapel, 541-267-3131.
