Elaine was born July 20, 1942, in Warren, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Kuhn Bokone.
In 1960, Elaine graduated from St. Mary High School in Warren and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown State University in 1966. She married Corbett Thornton on July 5, 1969, and they had recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Elaine and Corbett raised two daughters, Amy and Molly. She was a Catholic elementary schoolteacher at Blessed Sacrament in Warren, St. Stephen in Niles and St. Joseph in Farmington, Mo.
While she enjoyed teaching all grades, fourth grade was her favorite. Elaine loved keeping in touch with family and friends, watching her favorite grandsons grow and learning about and spotting wildlife. She also loved celebrating her Hungarian heritage and was forever devoted to her Catholic faith.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Corbett of Olympia; daughters, Amy Thornton of Olympia and Molly (Michael) Addington of Seattle; twin grandsons, Henry and Maxwell Addington of Seattle; brothers, John (Dianna) Bokone of Warren and Ernest (Mary Jo) Bokone of Grabill, Ind.; her beloved aunts and an uncle; and many dear nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation for family and friends will begin at 11 a.m., with a funeral Mass to follow at noon Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020, at St. Michael Parish, 1208 11th Ave. SE, Olympia, WA 98501.
Elaine will be laid to rest at Mills & Mills Memorial Park in Tumwater.
