Elizabeth Carolyn (Tompkins) Beck, 92, of Kelso, daughter of Dale C. and Hazel M. (Johnson) Tompkins passed away peacefully on Aug. 23, 2019. She was born July 27, 1927, in Columbus, NE. Just after she turned 8, her mother died suddenly and her grandparents Leslie and Carrie Tompkins raised her. She graduated from Albion Nebraska High School in 1945, then moved to Kelso to live with her father and five brothers. She married Cyrus L. Beck on Sept. 24, 1947. He passed away April 26, 2005, after 57 and a half years of marriage. Survivors include five sons, Jerry (Vickie) of Castle Rock, Daniel (Carol) of Longview, Kenneth (Gina) of Rose Valley, Gordon of Kelso, Philip (Dana) of Kalama; and one daughter Nancy (Rich) of Longview. There are several grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchild, a sister Bessie Blum of Kelso, and a brother Dale (Shirley) Tompkins of Rainier, WA, and many nieces and nephews. Elizabeth loved to sew, crochet, quilt, crossword, jigsaw puzzles and play scrabble. She also enjoyed visits to a casino occasionally. Her flowers were a great joy. While raising her family, she always had a big garden and canned everything possible to feed her family. Everyone loved her apple and pumpkin pies. She enjoyed having her young grandchildren visit her. Elizabeth was one of the last members of the Monticello Matrons and the Coweeman Birthday Club, and she served many offices in both clubs. Cremation has taken place, overseen by Dahl-McVicker Funeral Home. A private interment beside her husband Cyrus will be at Cowlitz View Garden.
