Son of Louis and Aurelia A Hall Dolive. Came to Orlando in 1886 from Alabama. Became interested in the buying and shipping of citrus. The Dolive home was know as the white house and was located on Orlando Avenue and Washington Street. After the 1895 freeze he entered the real estate and insurance field with his sons Louis S, Jenkins and George C. His wife was the former Kate Covington of Montgomery Alabama. Father to George C. Dolive. His brother William L Dolive joined the family in 1887 and operated a packing house for citrus. SIlas owned Orlando's first bicycle.

The bicycle had one large wheel in the front and a small back wheel. In later years it was one of many objects that his son Thomas, known by most as Jenkins Dolive, donated to the loch Haven Park Orlando Museum, which is still on display there.
