She was born in Denver, Colorado on November 18, 1941 to David and Viola Mares. She is survived by her children and their families Leticia Sanchez de Alba and Jose Manuel Alba Roman, Altagracia and Jason Jager, and J. Isidro Sanchez; grandchildren Azahara, Violetta and Rodrigo Alba; Seraphina, Oriana, Arabelle, and Benjamin Jager; and Aldous Sanchez; sister Cloette Amato-Lee, brother Christopher Mares; nieces Elissa and Gianna Amato and nephew Richard Amato. She was preceded in death by her brother Allen Mares and nephew David Mares.
She earned degrees from the University of Denver (BA) and Middlebury College (MS). She also worked toward her doctoral studies at the University of Colorado. She had a love of education, teaching, music and the arts. Her hobbies included geneology, linguistics, singing, playing multiple instruments, speaking Spanish and learning new languages. She was a trained voice major and a few highlights included singing with the Madrid Opera in Spain and for Pope John Paul II (Saint Pope John Paul II) at the Vatican in Rome with her music group Canta Colorado.
She loved spending time with her family and friends. Cynthia will be dearly missed.
