Bertha Jane Wallace, 82, daughter of the late Rev. W. T. Watson and Hattie (Murdock) Watson, was born June 4, 1899 at Houston and died August 2, 1981 at Meadow Manor Nursing Home in St. James.

She was united in marriage to Churchill E. Wallace March 2, 1919, and to this union two children were born.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers, a grandson and her husband.

Survivors include one son, Robert W. Wallace of Houston; one daughter, Betty Jo Korver of Poplar Bluff; one granddaughter and four grandsons and a great grandson and a great granddaughter, one sister, Mrs. Pearl Brown of Houston; one brother, Charles Watson of Houston; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was an active member of the Central Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. Later she and her husband moved their membership to the First Baptist Church of Houston.

She was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge for over 30 years having received her 30-year pin and was active in the American Legion Auxiliary for many years.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 4 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Yelton officiating. Burial was in the Central Baptist Cemetery.
