Charlene Norris Walker
August 17, 1929 - February 16, 2020

Charlene Norris Walker, 90, passed away quietly and peacefully on February 16, 2020 at
Sevierville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born to Verna and Charles Edens on August 17,1929.

Charlene was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert Schrader of Springfield,
Ohio and later, by her second husband, Carroll Walker of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She was also preceded by her daughter Cheryl Schrader and her son John Schrader and two brothers and two sisters, Andrew Edens, Omer Edens, Norma Dawson, and Laverne Wade.

Charlene is survived by her sister, Claudette Ward and three daughters, Tonya Maddex and her husband John, Missy Helton and her husband Roy, and Roxanna Schrader. She had 6
grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was an active member of St. Anne's Orthodox Christian Church where she created
beautifully ornate wooden carvings and enjoyed making the bread for the eucharist.

She had the gift of hospitality which followed her even after years in a nursing home, where
she gave gifts she won at bingo to her visitors.

She loved being the center of attention but when you had her attention she would make you feel like the most important person in the world. She had a big personality, too big to describe in an obituary, with flaws and self-interest mixed with humility and a fondness for Pantene shampoo, heaven forbid, a caretaker use V05.

We all fondly remember times when she became so tickled at herself, she would laugh to the
point of tears. She had an insatiable curiosity and a fervor that was infectious. She always
wanted to put her best foot forward, preferably in nice shoes.

She was surrounded by the love of her family and caregivers in her final years. She was very much family-oriented and created an atmosphere of laughter and joy. She sought connection with those around her. She was well-loved by everyone she met. We were endeared and charmed by her. She participated fully in whatever activity she chose to take on, indulging her curiosity in new hobbies and activities, serving and practicing hospitality, even to the point of insisting on sharing her ice cream with her priest a few weeks ago when he visited her bedside.

The family will receive friends 3:30 PM – 4 PM Tuesday with service to follow at 4 PM at funeral home. Father Stephen Freeman will officiate. Family and friends will meet 9:30 AM Wednesday at Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, Lyons View Pike, Knoxville for interment.
