The date for the birth of George Edgar Rawlins is incorrect on the grave stone. George Edgar Rawlins was born in 1860 and is listed on the Texas census of that year. His father, George Rodderick joined the Confederate Army in Rockwall, Texas in 1861 with Company F. 6th Regiment Texas Calvary bringing his own horse and gun with him as did his Rawlins cousins. He served in this company with 6 Rawlins cousins throughout the Civil War in Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and several other states as shown on his military records.

Pvt. George Rodderick Rawlins did not return home until 1865 and presumably died soon after of injuries he incurred in the war. He had been hospitalized several times in various states during his enlistment.

William H. Rawlins, George Edgar's little brother, was born in 1865-6, and records show that his mother, Sarah Florilla Hamm Rawlins, married John Stoker in 1867. Sarah Florilla Hamm Rawlins' younger sister was Naomi S. Hamm who came to Texas with Sarah and George in 1860 at the age of 10 from Illinois. Naomi became the wife of Thomas Franklin Rawlins, who was the younger brother of George Rodderick Rawlins.

George Edgar Rawlins had a second family with Fannie Burden Their youngest child was John Rawlins.
