Herb was in the United States Navy stationed on the USS Carronade from 1959-1960 as a cook. He worked many years for The City of Houston for ”The Road & Bridge Department” before he retired from the city.
He married the love of his life Caye Turner 1-11-1975 in Montgomery County, Texas. Herb and Caye settled down in Highlands, Texas along the San Jacinto River. There they lived many years at “58 Sandy Lane” in Banana Bend among many friends and neighbors that enjoyed the same likes as them: fishing, boating, kayaking, gardening, and enjoying the warm sun. He would often say “Those where the best years of my life living along San Jacinto River.”
After retirement Herb volunteered a lot at the local VFW Post 912 (Veteran of Foreign Wars) in Baytown, Texas. Once he was elected as the Quartermaster there and the bar manager for years. He enjoyed his time off but he always felt something missing in life so him and Caye started up a business called “C & H Supply.”
In Herb’s younger years he had a daughter “Lisa” from a previous marriage but him and Caye never had any children of their own. He would often talk about Lisa-he was a grandfather, how many grandchildren he had by Lisa, and how proud he was to be her father. He never forgot her.
Herb passed away in an ambulance on the way to the hospital with his best friend Mike Bridges by his side.
At Herb’s request there was no service was held.
