A resident of Lakeland, she died at 11:40 p.m. Thursday, July 4, 2002, at her daughter's residence in Lakeland. She was 86 and a native of Cat Island. Visiting at Niland's Funeral Home, New Roads, from 8:30 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Howard Bushey Jr. Entombment in False Memorial Park Mausoleum. Survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Clara and retired Lt. Col. John Lighter, Bowie, Md., and Patricia and Nolan Gremillion, Lakeland; two sisters, Cecil Mae Nicholas and Marle Louise LaBorde, both of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren, Deborah B. Morris and spouse Phil, Chalmette, Mike and spouse JoAnn Gremillion, Denham Springs, and Joyce Roussel and spouse Raymond, Baton Rouge; and six great-grandchildren, Phillip and Michael Morris, Spenser and Payton Gremillion and Heather and Rachael Roussel. Preceded in death by her husband, Victor Jarreau; parents, John and Adele Ortis; a daughter, Barbara Pryor; brothers, Angus, Paul, Vivan and Emile Ortis; and a sister, Bertha Moore. Pallbearers will be Phil and Michael Morris, Mike and Spenser Gremillion, Raymond Roussel and Ronnie Jarreau. Special thanks to Hospice of Baton Rouge.
