Donna M. (Garner) Parks, 81, of Huntingdon, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College, following complications from cancer and a stroke.

Born Jan. 22, 1939, near Hesston, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Ralph I. and Elizabeth (Grimes) Garner. She was united in marriage to Sgt. Major (Ret) Ronald N. Parks on May 4, 1958, by the Rev. Lister. Mr. Parks survives at their residence.

In addition to her husband of 61 years, she is survived by three children, Ronald I. Parks and his wife, Brandy, of Helotes, Texas, Tamara “Tammy” (Parks) Myers and her husband, Dale, of McConnellstown, and Steven E. Parks of Huntingdon; six grandchildren whom she loved very much, Lance Myers of Altoona, Timothy Myers of Pittsburgh, Arielle and Kira Myers, both of Huntingdon, and Rachel and Ryan Parks, both of Helotes, Texas.

She is also survived by two siblings, Ethel Price of Smithfield Township, Huntingdon, and John Garner of Cookeville, Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Sara Garner of Florida; as well as, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Ronald N. Parks Jr., in 1960; siblings Ralph Garner Jr. and Roberta “Louise” Mondo and a brother-in-law, Ralph “Tike” Price.

Mrs. Parks was a longtime member of the First Regular Baptist Church, Huntingdon, where over the years she served on many of the church boards and also as a youth leader. She was secretary and treasurer of the board of deacons at the time of her passing. She enjoyed very much the monthly meetings for breakfast or lunch with other ladies of the church.

She attended Huntingdon public schools and was a 1957 graduate of Huntingdon High School.

Mrs. Parks was employed by the former Murphy Mart and its successor, Ames Department Store, Huntingdon, as the personnel manager. She then worked for many years with News America, servicing stores in the central Pennsylvania area until her retirement.

She traveled with her husband, Ronald, on his tours overseas, living in Japan for five years and in Germany for three years. She was involved in community activities in both countries, serving as a Girl Scout leader and as president of the Wurzburg Community NCO Wives Club for two years. She had a love for flowers and enjoyed flower gardening and puttering in her yard; as well as playing video games.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with the Rev. David E. Ford officiating. Interment will be made in the Old Stone Church Cemetery, Penn Township, James Creek.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home Thursday.
