Ira Ruth Scott Smith
February 2, 1926 ~ February 12, 2020

Ruth Smith, 94, of Garland and Holly Lake, Texas passed away February 12, 2020. She was born February 2, 1926 in Mabank, Texas to her parents, Ira and Annie (Johnson) Scott. She married Kenneth Smith on December 15, 1945 in Garland, Texas.

Ruth grew up in Mabank, Texas, graduating from Mabank HS in 1943. It was there she met and married on December 15, 1945 the love of her life, Ken Smith. They moved to Garland in 1946 and started their family. They were active members of Austin Street Church of Christ in Garland until moving to Holly Lake Ranch in 1984, where they made many special friends and enjoyed a wonderful life of retirement. They were blessed with 57 years of marriage until Ken’s death in 2003. She stayed active at Holly Lake until moving to Mesquite in May 2017.

Ruth was a woman of many talents, she was an excellent seamstress, a fantastic cook and a gracious & generous hostess. She loved gardening and the outdoors, especially enjoying her walks around Holly Lake almost every single day. She gave willingly of her time, volunteering at Holly Lake Church of Christ and her special love, Camp Deer Run, where she gifted any grandchild or great grandchild and other children that wanted or needed a wonderful Christian Camp experience. This is just a small part of her loving generosity to her family. There was nothing that gave her more joy than spending time with her children, grand children and great grand children!

Survived by her daughters, Karen Finney and Sheila Kay Roan, grand children, great-grand children and many nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth Smith on August 21, 2003 and her siblings, Lois Potts, Redith Trawick, Loretta Hall, Louise Groom, Bessie White and JR Scott.

Funeral service will be at Restland in Dallas, Texas...RFH
