Apostle Donald Chandler, Sr. was born on February 23, 1949 in Houston, Texas to Mr. Lonnie and Missionary Effie Lee Chandler. Growing up with a musical mother and father he learned how to play the guitar and the piano by ear, and music became his passion. Following graduation from Jack Yates High School in 1967, he attended Wiley College on a football and track scholarship. While at Wiley College he started a band and a singing group, which ultimately resulted in the establishment of the Wiley College Choir, led by Apostle Chandler. In 1968, he accepted his call to the ministry and was appointed as the Minister of Music at Bible Days Revival Church under the leadership of Apostle E.W. Wilcots in Houston, TX.
While working a revival in Galveston, TX he met Deborah Pleasant and they married a year later. In 1971, he was drafted to the United States Army, causing his resignation at both the United States Postal Service and Bible Days Revival Church. While stationed in Thailand he fulfilled his duty as a Field Radio Mechanic and Electrical Technician. He became the father of two children thus deciding not to return to service, and he was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1974. With his mother being a founding member at Eighth Street COGIC, Apostle Chandler found it only right to plant his feet there in ministry. He served as the Minister of Music for the next seven years adding another addition to the family.
In 1982 (-2003), Apostle Chandler married Joyce Barnes and started preaching in 1985 when he branched off from the Church of God in Christ. He moved to Richmond, California and started a non-denominational church named EverFaithful Deliverance Ministries. His evangelistic anointing called him to various other ministries including Liberty Temple COGIC, Grace and Truth Ministries under Eddie Ford, Sr. and New Jerusalem Whole Truth under Apostle Gaddie. In 1991, he returned to Houston and reestablished EverFaithful Deliverance Ministries in Third Ward. In 2005, he opened Chandler’s Organ and Piano Repair and serviced many churches, schools and businesses across the state of Texas. Everyone knew to “call Chandler”! He established Fresh Start Ministries where he remained faithful until the end. Apostle Chandler has traveled many countries preaching and teaching the word of God and remained steadfast in his walk until his last breath on February 11, 2020.
He was preceded in death by both parents and leaves to cherish his three children- Donna Chandler, Donald, II. (Joanne) Chandler, and Danielle Chandler, stepchildren- LaShawn (Eddie), Aldwyn (Tiffany), Danna (Anthony), Timothy; his four granddaughters, Charlotte, Cheyanne, Chanelle, and Chanesse Chandler, 11 step-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives, friends and family.
