Pleasant Point – Rebecca Clair Francis, 89, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020 surrounded by family at a Bangor hospital. Rebecca was born in Pleasant Point on May 9, 1930, daughter of John and Maria (Sockbasin) Dana.

Rebecca attended school in Pleasant Point and married Daniel Francis. While raising her children, she worked as a cook for St. Ann School at Pleasant Point and seasonal work making wreaths. Rebecca enjoyed traditional Native American arts, sharing her talent making baskets and braiding sweetgrass. She was an avid Bingo player and enjoying collecting nail polish, and playing cards and board games.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Daniel; her infant twins; a grandson George; great-grandson U-Neeq; and siblings, Peter, John, Evelyn, Viola, Mary, Ambrose, Noel and Eunice. Rebecca is survived by her children, John Francis Sr., Carroll Francis Sr., Mary Deborah Baxter and husband Edward, Linda Lingley and husband James, Leonard “Itch” Francis and companion Mary Jo Bailey, Dean Francis, and Michelle Smiley and husband Gary; two grandchildren who she considered her own children, Craig Francis and wife Kelly and April Dullnig and husband Robert; a sister Annabelle Bassett; and 86 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. Rebecca was the proud Matriarch of five generations.

Visiting hours will begin 10 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2020 at the Elder Meal Site, 2 Elder’s Way, Pleasant Point, until 9:30 am. Tuesday. Following the visitation, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Kevin J. Martin 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Beatrice Rafferty School. In lieu of flowers at this time, flowers will be accepted in Rebecca’s memory when her burial takes place during Indian Days, 1 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2020.
