Sue Kathy Upchurch Griffin, 72, of Inverness, passed to her eternal heavenly home after a long, courageous fight with multiple health issues on February 13, 2020. She was born January 7, 1948 in Drew, Mississippi to Laton and Margrette Fitzgibbon Upchurch. Kathy spent most of her life in Inverness. She graduated from Inverness High School and returned in later years to work and care for the institution she so dearly loved. She was a mentor to many of the students and was known by family and friends as “Mama G”. Kathy was a caring and generous woman who loved easily and wholeheartedly and gave willingly of her time and possessions. She loved growing flowers, cooking, and baking which she shared with her many friends and family. Kathy will be missed by everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Laton and Margrette Upchurch; brother, Laton “Sonnie” Upchurch, Jr.; and her husband, Clark Griffin.

Kathy is survived by two sons, Brad Griffin of Texas, Matt Griffin and wife Michelle of Inverness; and one daughter, Georgia Griffin Mahaffey of Indianola; six grandchildren, Matthew Griffin, Spencer Ganz, Talon Griffin, Paisley Griffin, Heather Adams, and Kasey Watson; and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Edna Upchurch Kirkup of Rogersville, Missouri and Linda Upchurch Nelms of Inverness, and one brother, Ronnie Upchurch and wife Cindy of North Port, Alabama.

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 16, 2020 from 1:00 pm until the 2:00 pm memorial service at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. A private interment will be held at a later date. Burton Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to March of Dimes or University of Mississippi Medical Center NICU.
