Obituary
Our amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Carl Dean Peterson, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on February 13,
Dean was born in Murray, UT to Gus and Ina Mulvey Peterson. He grew up on his parent’s small farm on Casto Lane in Hollady, UT with his sister Marilyn and his dog Curly. He graduated from Olympus High School in 1954. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Finland from 1956-59. He returned home to work his beloved farm and ranch along the Strawberry River near Duchesne, UT. It was in Duchesne that he met his wife Pam. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 31, 1962. They lived on the farm. In addition to farming and raising cattle, he worked for 40 years for the Duchesne County School District as a bus driver, mechanic, and then transportation supervisor. After he retired, he served in the Vernal Temple for 17 years.
Dean loved serving in the church and served as a ward and stake missionary, ward seventy, counselor in the Bishopric, and as a Stake High Councilor. But, mostly, he just loved serving others. He took joy in using his talents to help others and give of what he had. He loved all animals and loved people. He loved to visit with everyone. All were welcome on the farm. It has been a gathering place. But, he was the type of person that made wherever he was a gathering place and whoever he spoke with feel like family.
Pam and Dean have four children as well as many foster children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and others he considered his family as well. He said often that his family was his greatest treasure.
He is survived by his wife Pam of 57 years, children, Sondra (Ken) Nielson, Leamington; Scott (Leslie) Peterson, Vernal; Anna (Darrin) Brown, Vernal; 14 grandchildren, and 16 (soon to be 18) great-grandchildren, sister, Marilyn Joy Poulson, Salt Lake City; many other beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jodi Dean, his parents, grandchildren, Amy and Carl Robert Peterson and Dean Wayne Brown.
Dean’s passing leaves a big hole in our hearts, but the memory of his kindness and selflessness heals that void. We are grateful for him.
Funeral services for Dean will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020 at the Duchesne 3rd Ward Building at 130 S 300 E, Duchesne, Utah. Friends may also visit at the church on Monday from 6:00 -8:00 pm and Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:45 prior to the funeral services. Burial in the Duchesne City Cemetery.
