Major League Baseball Player. Played Major League baseball as a 1st baseman for 20 seasons (1915 to 1934) with the Washington Senators, Brooklyn Dodgers and Boston Red Sox. For 18 of his 20 Major League years, he was the regular fist sacker for the Senators. Agile and diminutive, he set fielding standards for first basemen with graceful sure-handedness. He led or tied all American League first baseman in fielding six times, still an AL record. He compiled a brilliant lifetime fielding average of .993 , an AL record that stood for more than 30 years. A left-handed thrower and hitter, his batting average topped .300 in nine full seasons with a career average of .298.
