Ed grew up in Iowa, South Dakota, and in the Kansas City, Missouri area, graduating
from Odessa R-7 High School in 1974. He attended Graceland College and later graduated from Longview Community College with an Associate's degree in automotive mechanics, in which he had a knack for diagnostics.
He enjoyed being involved in church activities and also enjoyed working on cars. Additional interests included singing, getting together with extended family members, model railroads, military history and reading Tom Clancy books.
Ed served on the Independence Fire Department for 24 years, achieving the rank of Battalion Chief. He also worked several other jobs over the years to support his family.
Ed and Shawna Pate were married on June 27, 2009, in Odessa, Missouri.
Ed's mother preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Shawna; nine children; grandchildren; his father; brothers, David (Michelle); Jared (Marcia); Roland (Kathy); nieces, Amy (Ethan) Mechling; April (Brent) Wilson; Rachel Mohler; nephew,Benjamin (Alecia)
Mohler; great-nephews, Huxley Wilson, Kyson and Lincoln Mohler, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held on Monday, February 17, 2020 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 705 W Walnut Street in Independence, Missouri. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Arrangements are through Heartland Cremation & Burial Society. The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care given by Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care.
