It is thought that Irvin Talton was born in Johnston County, North Carolina on November 10, 1813 (or possibly 1817). His parents were Cullen and Lucy Clark Talton. He had eight siblings: Martin W., William Hardy, Henry, Ann, Dicy Talton Conly, Thomas Jefferson, Mary Elizabeth Nix and Martha (twins).

Georgia marriage records show Irwin Talton marrying Ava Marina Airs on November 23, 1837 in Baldwin, Georgia. It is believed he/they moved with a group (including his parents and some of his siblings) from Houston County, Georgia to Bienville Parish, Louisiana in 1848.

In 1850, Irvin and his brother-in-law, Cullen Thomas Conly, purchased adjoining 40-acre plots of land, probably along the eastern bank of Lake Bistineau, about seven miles west of Ringgold, Louisiana.

The 1850 census shows the occupants of Irvin's household as Irvin, 33; Avy M. Talton, 33; Cullen C., 9; Nancy A. E., 7; Mahalo/a, 5; Adolphus, 3; and James D., 1 year old.

In 1871, Webster Parish was formed when Bienville, Claiborne, and Bossier Parishes were split, and most of the group from Georgia became members of Webster Parish.

From 1877 - 1880, Talton represented Dubberly, Heflin, and south Webster Parishes as a member of the Webster Parish Police Jury (similar to a county commission). Then from 1880 - 1884, he served as a representative from Webster Parish to the Louisiana legislature.

It is not known at this time when he died, but he, his wife, and several of his family were buried in Walker Cemetery, Webster Parish, Louisiana.
