Wickenburg Sun (Wickenburg, Arizona)
Wednesday, January 22, 2020, p. A-5
Peggy Lorraine Pruitt Simpson was welcomed by our Lord on Jan. 8, 2020. She was born on a farm near Parsons, Kan. on July 14, 1942, to Elsberry "E.Y." Younger Pruitt and Violet Noreen Waters Pruitt, and moved to Cascade, Idaho in 1946. Peggy graduated from Cascade High School. She married Terry Sheldon and they had four daughters together. She mostly lived in Idaho, Arizona, and Oregon and moved to Wickenburg in 1981. She held many jobs including hostess, taxi driver, school bus driver (attending school as a keypunch operator), secretary, UPS driver, deputy sheriff, substance abuse and detox counselor, Central Arizona Canal project participant, prison guard, probation officer, and retiring as a sentencing coordinator for the Public Defender's Office in downtown Phoenix, commuting from Wickenburg for many years. Peggy started college at Boise State University, and acquired her bachelor's degree at Arizona State University in criminal justice. After retirement she was a substitute teacher at Wickenburg High School for several years and became a snowbird, like her parents, between Cascade, Idaho and Wickenburg. She enjoyed music, sewing, caring for her horse and doggies, and spending time with family and friends. In 2016 she became a year-round resident of Cascade and the past few months in Meridian, Idaho, where she passed peacefully with frequent and caring visits from family members and friends. Peggy made it a priority to spend time with family, her siblings, attend family reunions, and stay involved with her children and grandchildren. She taught them to cook, sew, and daily life skills, but more importantly to never shy away from hard work, never be afraid to speak their minds, stand up for themselves and others, be independent, the value of family, to be patient, honest, and not to judge. She was the best listener of all time, and talks with family were the best of times. Although she was fond of the desert as much as the forest, Peggy loved a good banter with her brothers over a campfire at the Lucky Lad Mine. The families traveled to the Lucky Lad cabin in Idaho every summer. She enjoyed cooking hotcakes with her mom and sisters on the wood stove, pranks from the kids, and family history.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; sister Delores Pruitt (age 5) and brother Cary Pruitt. She is survived by sister Darlene (Terry) Moore-Cascade, and Wickenburg; brother Norman (Diana) Pruitt-Emmett, Idaho; sister-in-law Pat Pruitt-Omak, Wash.; daughters Tracy (Chris) Curran-Meridian, Idaho, Micki Brown, Calif., Angela "Angie"(Stevie) Everett, Wickenburg, and Melody "Shay" (Dean) Holmes, Cascade; grandchildren Adam Curran, Hannah Avendano, Camas Curran, Brian Sheldon, Heather Krause, Alyssa "Stevie" Everett, Joshua Holmes, Joel Holmes, Alexandria "Lexi" Holmes; six great-grandchildren and beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed but always living in the hearts of loved ones.
A celebration of life will be held at daughter Shay's home in Cascade on July 25, 2020. Condolences may be sent C/O Angie Everett at P.O. Box 276, Wickenburg, AZ 85358 to be shared with family in July.
