Mr. Tommy Dell Harris of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2020 at the age of 84.

Tommy was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, December 6, 1935. He was the third and youngest child of Tom Alexander Harris and Velma Leighton Harris. After graduating in 1953 from Tulsa, Oklahoma’s Daniel Webster High School, Tommy attended the University of Tulsa, graduating in 1968 with a BS in Journalism.

Tommy worked in media and advertising retiring from his final position as an Account Executive for WAVY-TV of Portsmouth, Virginia in 2000. Tommy’s passion was for entertaining. After graduating college, he and his best friend, James Smith, formed The Rovin’ Singers. Singing ballads and folk songs, they were known in and around Oklahoma and in many other states. He also had the honor of touring military bases in Europe and entertaining the troops. Tommy performed over 200 roles on stage, television and in movies.

Tommy is survived by his wife of 28 years, and dearest friend for four decades, Phyllis MacMillan Harris. He leaves behind his son David Harris (Jennifer) of St. Louis, Missouri, and his daughter Katie Johnson (Bruce) and two grandchildren all of Edmond, Oklahoma.

A celebration of Tommy’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope for Life Animal Rescue
