Thomas was raised in Lovington, New Mexico, and moved to Llano Texas in high school. He was a 1988 graduate of Llano High School, where he was a star on the basketball team. He entered the Army after graduation. In 1992, he married his wife Jennifer Dudley. He had served in Operation Desert Thunder, Operation Iraqi Freedom I, and Operation Enduring Freedom I and II. He was assigned to 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, based at Vicenza, Italy. Among his awards are the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Clusters, Meterious Service Medal, and Master Parachutist Badge. He was posthumously promoted from Captain to Major. Tom planned on retiring on the end of his current tour. He is survived by his wife; two daughters; his mother; father; brothers; sisters; and many other relatives.
