Matthew Henderson Elder, 39, of McDowell, passed away on March 31, 2007 at University of Virginia Medical Center as a result of cancer. He was born May 7, 1967 in Alexandria. He was a 1985 graduate of Grafton High School, Grafton, W.Va., and a graduate of West Virginia University with a bachelor's degree in sociology and agriculture. Matthew was a successful cattle, turkey, and sheep farmer; he was also was an insurance agent for the Virginia Farm Bureau in Monterey.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 4, at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, by the Rev. Beth Pyles. Interment will follow in McDowell Cemetery.
