Matthew Paul Hughes, 54, of Franklin, Indiana passed away peacefully at his home February 11, 2020. He was born December 12, 1965 in Elmhurst, Illinois to Leonard Anthony Hughes and Rose Delores (Guardalabene) Hughes.

Matt was a 1984 graduate of Northridge High School in Middlebury, Indiana and a 1992 graduate of Indiana State University where he received his degree in engineering. He had been a biomedical engineer for Roche Diagnostics in Indianapolis. Matt had a passion for music, playing the guitar and loved being the go-to person for trivia questions. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends. Matt told his wife that at the ending of his life, he wanted those closest to him know that he said “I tried.”

Survivors are his wife of 28 years Tammy (Teichman) Hughes of Franklin, whom he married on August 10, 1991 in Elkhart, Indiana; daughte,r Grace Hughes of Franklin; mother, Rose Delores (Guardalabene) Hughes of Bristol, Indiana; brother, Christopher Hughes and his wife Debbie of Union, Michigan; sisters Julie Wales and her husband Bob of Elkhart and Carol Hughes of Valparaiso, Indiana; nine nieces and nephews and beloved great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Anthony Hughes; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Wanda (Warner) Wenger.

Father Vinny Gillmore of Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church will conduct a service 10:30 a.m. February 18, 2020 at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center - 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. February 17, 2020 at the mortuary. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Franklin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to an organization near and dear to Matt’s heart which was the National Breast Cancer Foundation - 2600 Network Blvd, Suite 300, Frisco, TX, 75034 or at www.nationalbreastcancer.org.
