Christopher Albert Markway, 64, of Wardsville, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 8, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 9, 1955, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Marcellus H. Markway Sr., and Pauline C. (Stegeman) Markway.
Chris was a lifelong resident of Wardsville, graduating from Blair Oaks High School in 1973, and a member of St. Stanislaus Church. He was a carpenter employed by Marcellus Markway Construction, Menefee Construction, Scheperle Construction Scruggs Lumber, and later self-employed.
Chris was a gifted artist with some of his work commissioned by the Missouri Department of Conservation (Mammals of Missouri, 1982) and invited to Disney World to demonstrate his chainsaw art. He was a member of the North American Wood Carvers Assn. and Ducks Unlimited where many of his art works were donated. He was also a member of the Carpenters Union. Chris truly lived life to the fullest with simple pleasures exploring nature, time spent on the Osage River, hunting and fishing, and never knew a stranger as evident from the many lasting friendships made on his sunporch. Chris lived the two great commandments: Love God and neighbor and practiced the Corporal Works of Mercy.
He is survived by his mother, Pauline C. Markway, Wardsville, and siblings: Marc (Betty) Markway, Etterville, Mo., Mary Beth Martz (Tom), Lebanon, N.H., Dennis (Pam) Markway, Eugene, Mo., Jude (Mary) Markway, Wardsville, Donna (Wayne) Bernskoetter, Wardsville, Emily (Gary) Crawford, Englewood, Fla., Albert (Debbie) Markway, Clinton, Mo., Rita Paul, Kansas City, Mo., and John (Lisa) Markway, Tebbetts, Mo.; his best canine friends, Dolly and Gus; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marcellus Markway Sr. and nephews Gabriel Rieke and Michael Rieke.
A Celebration of Life will be held, Saturday, February 29, 2020, at the Colonel Bolton Home Event Center, (9125 Winkelmann Platz, Wardsville) beginning at noon with a meal and to share stories with friends and family, all are invited.
At the regular 5:30 Mass at St. Stanislaus, a mass of intention will be for Chris Markway and Marcellus Markway.
