Norma Jo Stevens Russell, 73, of Verda entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at her home following a sudden illness. Born October 10, 1946 in Harlan County, Norma was a self-employed beautician. She loved singing, helping others and chatting it up with her friends. She enjoyed watching her children and then her grandchildren playing sports. Norma was a member of the Yocum Creek Missionary Baptist Church which she loved dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James William “Jim” Russell; her parents, Oscar Stevens and Ruth Smiddy Stevens; two sisters, Betty Skidmore and an infant sister, Vera Ruth Stevens; and three brothers, Pete, Ronnie and Terry Stevens.
Survivors include three children, Elisa Brock and husband, David, Harlan; Robin Lindsay, Rocky Top, TN; Scott Russell and wife, Michelle, Corbin; two sisters, Amelia “Midge” Goff and Debbie Shirley and husband, Chuck, all of Oceana, WV; and sisters-in-law, Sandy Stevens, Ohio and Patricia Stevens, VA.
Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jared Lindsay, Russell Lindsay, Meredith Russell, MaKenna Russell and Madalyn Jo Russell; a great-grandson, Kyden James Russell; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends, and her church family.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 15, 2020, at the Evarts Funeral Home beginning at twelve noon with funeral services to follow at 2 pm. The Reverend Gerald Jones and the Reverend Gary Craig, Sr. will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Resthaven Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
