Funeral services for Jeffrey Alan Simmons 75, of Evans, La, will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Leesville with Father Michiels and Father Mauricio officiating.

Burial will follow at the Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery in Evans.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 am and held until service time on Thursday with a rosary from 10:30 to 10:50.

Jeff was born on February 29, 1944 in Port Arthur, Texas to C.O. “Buster” Simmons and Clarice (Mitcham) Simmons.

He graduated from PNG High School in Port Neches, Texas where he also met his wife Alice. He joined the Navy in 1962 and proudly served as a quartermaster and a recruiter before he was honorably discharged in 1966. In 1978 he moved his family of five to Evans, Louisiana where he spent the remainder of his life. He was a carpenter and sawmill owner that was well known for his building of cypress wood furniture, he also served as Assistant Chief of the Evans Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Not only was carpentry his profession but it was also a passion of his until his retirement in 2009. After retirement he enjoyed life on the river spent with his wife of 56 years and numerous visits from his many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Some of his favorite things included: playing incrediball for St. Michael’s, golfing with Father Mauricio, riding his Harley trike and sitting on his front porch swing with the love of his life.

Jeff is preceded in death by his son Kyle Simmons, grandson Christopher Simmons, both parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, A. and Angelica Salinas, brother-in-law Frank Salinas.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife; Alice Simmons of Evans, son; Alan Simmons and wife Sherri of Evans; daughter; Natalie Thomas and husband Gary of Cravens; daughter in law Jeannie Hicks and husband Richard of Newllano; sister Paula Moye of Nederland, Texas; brother Jerry Simmons of Nederland, Texas and sister Pamela Bargainer of Groves, Texas. Jeff was blessed with nine grandchildren; Valerie, Link, Monica, Kimberly, Lee, Tanya, Tressa, Timothy, Brianna, twenty-nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as honorary pallbearers: Link Hughes, Lee Henton, Timothy Thomas, David Ducas, Skylar LeCroy and Daniel Santamaria.
