On the bright and blessed day of August 28, 1947, a beautiful baby girl was born to Fred and Willie Mae Johnson in Wharton, Texas. She was named Rose.

Rose attended elementary school and later graduated from Wharton High School and later she relocated to Houston, Texas to seek employment. Rose worked for River Bend Country Club for 15 years. Later, Rose moved on to work as a cab driver for Square Deal Cab Company and later for the Yellow Cab Company. Then later in 2000, Rose met the love of her life, Mr. James Stevens. Rose’s hobbies were playing cards, dominos and most of all fishing.

Rose rededicated her life to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at New Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Laban Kimble for approximately six years. Rose ran her race with dignity, love, patience, joy, meekness, kindness and longsuffering – all from the fruit of the spirit. Rose departed this earthly life on February 9, 2020.

Rose is preceded in passing by her parents, Fred and Willie Mae Johnson and her brother, Darnell Balfour.

Rose leaves precious memories to: her husband, James Stevens; daughter, Laquirsha Fisher (husband, Darnell); stepdaughter, Jamisha Lewis; stepsons, Anthony Johnson, Robert and Nat Beverly, “Space”, Norell Smith and Clarence Washington; sister, Jackie Frank; two grandchildren, Jerryunna Miller and Aundra Cleo Brown; nephew K.B.; niece, Phelina Ellis and truly a host of relatives and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Rose’s life will be held Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. The service will take place at New Macedonia Baptist Church, 6619 Prino Road in Hitchcock, TX 77563. 409-986-7112.
