Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Vernal 3rd Ward Chapel for Lydia Ellen (Ella) Hardy Cook, 79, who died at the home of a daughter Tuesday morning.
Mrs. Cook, a lifetime resident of Vernal, was active in church and civic affairs in the Vernal area.
She was born November 9, 1886 in Vernal, a daughter of Joseph and Lydia Hardy. She attended schools here and was a student at the old Uintah Academy. She married M.M. (Mike) Cook, November 2, 1905 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died November 30, 1961.
She was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers having been one of the charter members and one of the first officers of the group. She also instigated the start of the D.U.P. Museum when it opened on North Vernal Avenue.
She was also active in the LDS Church. she was member of a number of singing groups and for many years took care of the flowers at funerals in the Vernal 2nd and 3rd wards.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Lloyd H. (Linne) Crapo, Orem; Mrs. James (LaMar) Crofts, Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Richard (Roberta) Ufford, Vernal; two sons, Eldon Cook, Urbana, Ohio, and Wallace Cook, Chico, California; 28 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Dodds, Redondo Beach, California, and Mrs. Samuel (Marie) Porter, Shelby, Montana; three brothers, Charles Hardy, Vernal; Burt A. Hardy, Redwood City, California; and Joseph Hardy, Reno, California.
Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery.
