A life-long resident of Augusta, Mr. Starnes was in the first graduating class of Butler High School and a graduate of today's Augusta State University. He completed his education at the University of Texas at El Paso after serving in the US Army. Mr. Starnes' career was almost entirely in the boat trailer industry, first as a salesman, then as a branch manager and later as an owner/manufacturer. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing most of his life.
Mr. Starnes was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Etoil Starnes and his sister, Betty Letbetter.
He is survived by his son, Lee Starnes of Atlanta; his brother, Don Starnes and wife, Vicki of Arlington, Texas and his loving companion, Ali Black of Augusta. He is also survived by his cousin, Mona Jean Thompson of Augusta; his uncle, Gerald O'Neal and wife, Evelyn of Martinez and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, the 22nd of October in the Chapel of the Thomas L. King Funeral Home, 124 Davis Road at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Kelly McKnight officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home.
