Age 82, passed away Friday, February 9, 2020 in Lansing. Karen was born in Lansing on September 23, 1937, the daughter of George and Lillian (Whitney) Hastings. She loved her Detroit Tigers, quiet times to read and was an avid traveler. Besides her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her 4 children, Diane T. Dean-Mailand, Gary L. Dean, John A. Dean and Daniel T. Dean; brothers, John and Wayne Hastings; her grandson, Jason Mailand. Surviving are her children, Marilyn “Sue” Dean and David M. (Rachel) Dean; many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and nephews; her brothers, Dr. Greg (Connie) Hastings and Michael Hastings. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 1:00 p.m. at the Palmer, Bush and Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 11:00-1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Karen.
