He earned two Master degrees; one in Mathematics and the other in Physics.
He met JoAnn Ellen Nikodym while teaching in Neligh, Nebraska. They lived in the same apartment building. They were married March 16th, 1957 in Meadow Grove, Nebraska. Their daughter Teresa Ann was born August 10th, 1959 while they lived in Albion where Gary was teaching high school math and science. They then moved to Auburn, Nebraska where Gary taught. Their son Brian Gary was born there. They spent the next summer in Chicago so Gary could take additional classes. In 1963 they moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska where Gary taught Chemistry, Physics, Math, and Electronics, among other subjects at the High School and Junior High for the next 37 years, retiring in 1994. They moved to Orem, Utah in 2001 to be near his son and his family.
Gary enjoyed electronics and built many electronic kit items including his stereo and a Ham Radio outfit (K0AMY). He enjoyed talking to people around the country including an uncle whom he talked with regularly.
He enjoyed his family, always putting his wife, children, and other family members as a priority. He always made it a point to stay in touch with members of the family. This was important to him even later in his life. The family took regular trips, multiple times each year back to Eastern Nebraska to visit parents and other family members. He instilled Christian values of honesty, patriotism, respect, loyalty, and self-sufficiency in his children. He was ever concerned about his wife and children and spent much time making sure they were doing well and their needs were being met. Even in his last years, with the onset of dementia, the care and welfare of his family were foremost in his thoughts.
He passed away, Sunday, May 28th at approx. 3:20 PM in Orem, Utah due to complications of pneumonia. He is survived by his wife JoAnn and children Brian (Judy) and Teresa (Jim) Ansley. He had four grandchildren: Audrey Clara (Andrew) Clifton Earl, Blake Brian Clifton, Elisabeth Ellen Ansley, and Caitlin Grace Ansley.
