Helen was born to William Loebsack (1858-1947) and Louisa Loebsack, née Dobbertin/Dobberthein (1862-1929). A birth register shows her name as Alana Sophia Loebsach.

Helen married Fredrick Quel on August 28, 1918, in Sebastopol, Perth County, Ontario. The marriage affidait shows that Helen worked as a dressmaker, Frederick, as a box cutter.

In 1922, Frederick and Helen had a daughter named Gladys. She predeceased her parents in 1975.

Peacefully, at her residence, 210-45 Adelaide Ave., Kitchener, on Saturday, Nov. 15, 1986, aged 89 years. Mrs. Quehl was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Kitchener and a member of the Waterloo Crystal Rebekah Lodge. Mrs. Quehl was a former active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Dear grandmother of Lynn and David Helwig, both of Kitchener; mother-in-law of Robert Helwig of Kitchener; sister of Mrs. Gladys Appel of Kitchener and Mrs. Edith Hauck of Waterloo. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick; her daughter, Gladys (Helwig); her parents, Louise and William Loebsack; two brothers, Ervin and Edgar [Edward] Loebsack and one sister, Emma Meisner.
