Marva Lutz Sharp Thomas, age 83, died February 7, 2020, in Bountiful, Utah. Marva was born July 2, 1936, to Albert Laurence Lutz and Lila Johnson Lutz in Rexburg, Idaho. She was raised in Idaho and the Ogden area. Marva attended Ogden High and was in the first graduating class from Ben Lomond High School.
Marva married Ronald Delwin Sharp on February 15, 1957. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Marva and Ron had four children, Gary, Curtis, Connie and Roger. Following Ron's graduation from the University of Utah they moved to Bountiful Utah. Their home was often open to those who needed a place to stay or a family to belong to.
Marva and Ron had several challenges. Connie and Roger suffered from a form of muscular dystrophy, which took their lives at 2-years and 18-months of age. About two years following Roger's death, Ron started having health problems, eventually receiving a cancer diagnosis. Marva diligently cared for Ron and the family for many years.
Following Ron's death, Marva married Lester Thomas in Bountiful, Utah, on April 27, 1991. Marva and Les loved to travel and entertain. They were called to serve in the branch presidency of a senior living apartment complex. They served a mission to Australia, and loved the Australian people and country. Les' children and grandchildren enriched Marva's life and she loved them.
Marva started working as the office manager for Fox Valley Leathers when her boys were serving missions and continued for many years. Marva generously served others throughout her life. She volunteered at the Salt Lake Valley Juvenile Detention Center, the Bountiful Food Pantry and as a host at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and the General Relief Society Building to name a few. She served in her local wards in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in several Relief Society presidencies and as president. She always remembered fondly the Laurel class of the Bountiful 17th ward. She was a member of the Ladies of Altiora, a community-based service organization. Marva loved to travel and visited all seven continents during her lifetime.
Most of all, Marva loved spending time with her family. She loved Sunday dinners, making Christmas cookies with her grandchildren and celebrating other holidays. Marva was always involved in extended family events, such as weddings, showers, missions and reunions.
Marva is survived by her sons, Gary (Lisa) Sharp and Curtis (Kathy) Sharp, her grandchildren, Katie (Chad) Bello, Jill Sharp, Brenden (Amy) Sharp, Heidi (Dennis) Padilla, Haley (Talon) Conant, Mitchell (Nichole) Sharp, Rachel Sharp; and 4 great-grandchildren, Jonathan Bello, Mark Bello, Eric Bello and Lexi Conant, as well as an informally adopted daughter, Valeria Ribeiro, and her daughters, Rachel and Julie Hirschi.
She is survived by her sisters, Donna Cody and Joyce Garlick, and brothers, Nolan (Barbara) Lutz and Blair (Orlou) Lutz. Additionally, Marva is survived by many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by Les' children Brent (Joy) Thomas, Cheri (Mike) Ericksen, Bart's widow, Marsha Thomas, and Les' grandchildren.
Marva was preceded in death by her children, Connie Sharp and Roger Lutz Sharp, parents, husbands, Ron and Les, her brother and sister, ElRoy Lutz and Vella Lutz Hayes, and Les' son, Bart Thomas.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main St., Bountiful, Utah, where a viewing will be held at Friday, February 14, 2020, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. on Saturday prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Plain City Cemetery.
