Etha Olean “Crickette” Adams Gregory Carter, 98, of the Hillsview community near Riceville, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020, at her residence. A native of Townsend and a longtime resident of McMinn County, she was the daughter of the late Ervie and Estella Webb Adams and was preceded in death by her first husband, William Labe Gregory; her second husband, Lawrence Edgar “L.E.” Carter; a stepson, Mike Carter; and four brothers. She was a former eighth grade English substitute teacher for the Madisonville School System and was a member of Riceville Church of God. Survivors include a daughter, Gail Thomas of the Hillsview community near Riceville; one granddaughter, Robin Sweat (J.J.) of Palatka, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Jess Sweat (Timberley) and Elicia Upshaw (Dustin); three great-great-grandchildren, Tinsley Sweat, Easton Upshaw and Denton Upshaw; step-grandchildren, Levi Carter, and Meloney (Sid); step great-grandson, Hunter; one sister-in-law, LaVerne Adams; and two stepsons, Ronnie Carter of Riceville, and Fred Carter of Riceville. Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Thomas officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
