George was born to parents James and Anna Belle (MacRae) Burrows.

George F. Burrows, a founder of the American Civil Liberties Union, died of a brain tumor Monday at the Meadow Green Nursing Center in Waltham, Mass. He was 89 years old and lived in Cambridge.
After dropping out of Harvard College, he became a department store clerk and an insurance adjuster, worked with the Works Progress Administration in the Depression and after World War II returned to Harvard, where for 20 years he was a university police officer.
In the 1920's he helped Roger Baldwin and others found the A.C.L.U. Mr. Burrows was also a founding member of the League Against Capital Punishment and a fund-raiser for the defense of the nine black defendants in the Scottsboro rape case in 1931.
Survivors include a son, the actor Orson Bean of Venice, Calif., and four granchildren.
