Army veteran, retired lithographer, school bus driver

Charles H. 'Charlie' Schwartz, 89, lifelong Staten Islander, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, at Staten Island University Hospital North.

Born Friday, April 11, 1930, in Stapleton, he was the son of the late Charles Schwartz and the late Loretta Gallagher Schwartz.

Charles was a graduate of McKee High School and a U.S. Army veteran. He spent his working years as a lithographer for several printing companies in New York, retiring about 30 years ago. Following a long printing career, he became a school bus driver for several years.

In his free time, Charles was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing golf, trips to Atlantic City, N.J., and simply playing cards with friends.

A longtime parishioner of St. Christopher's Church, Charles was involved as an usher at Mass, worked Bingo nights, and volunteered his time to his parish. He was also a member of Manresa Council Knights of Columbus.
Charles was the beloved husband of 65 years to Beatrice "Bea" Schwartz; loving father of Chuck Schwartz, Suzanne Carmona, and Carolyn Lanza; dear brother of Dorothy 'Sissy' Walsh; and cherished grandfather of Chris, Jessica, Ralph, Nicole, Evan, Catherine, Gregory, and Matthew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Christopher's Church, 130 Midland Ave., Staten Island, N.Y. 10306. Interment will follow in Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd., Staten Island, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, if you so desire, donations in memory of Charlie can be made to The American Heart Association, The American Lung Association or to The American Cancer Society.
