Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Avenue in Creston. Pastor Chuck Spindler will officiate. Burial will be at Harmony Cemetery, northwest of Shannon City.
Open visitation will be 2-7:00 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2020, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston, with family receiving friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Monday.
Memorials are to the Open Door Mission in Omaha.
Patricia Joan Hoffman, daughter of Frank V. Miller and Flora J. (White) Miller, was born May 22, 1935, in Creston. She graduated from Creston High School in 1953, Creston Jr. College in 1955, and earned her bachelor’s degree from Buena Vista College in 1988.
In December 1954, Pat married Robert Vernon Hoffman in Creston, where they first settled. Pat was an elementary teacher at Afton, Arispe, and Diagonal. She worked briefly at Gits Manufacturing, then at Spurgeon’s Mercantile from 1979 – 1988, both in Creston. Most recently, Pat was a multi-categorical special education teacher in the Oakland School District, later known as Riverside. Concurrently, Pat did graduate work at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. She retired in 1997.
Pat was a member of Platte Center Church in Kent, where she taught Sunday School to many children and volunteered in many ways. She was a member of the PTA at Franklin School and PTO at Lincoln School. Later, she attended worship services at Shannon City Fellowship.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; four children, Lisa (Steve); Mauricsa (Rock); Rob (Pam); Helene (Rod); and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Flora Miller, and her sister, Kathryn Kurtzeman.
