Army Spc. Rodriguez was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia. Rodriguez died in Saqlawiyah of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Jaime grew up in Santa Barbara and moved to Carpinteria, California at age 12 with his mother after his parents divorced. At the age of 16, he again moved with his mother to Oxnard but commuted to Carpinteria to finish high school in 2005. In November 2005, he joined the Army and shipped out to Iraq in January. He was a cavalry scout who did reconnaissance work. Jaime loved to play video games and was a good student in school where he ran cross-country and track events. He was awarded four honors posthumously, including the Purple Heart and Bronze star.
