I asked my Dad, James Lee Locklin - son of Theodore Francis Locklin, how Granddaddy got his well-known nickname. He said he was told that when Granddaddy was born, Granddaddy's brothers and sisters looked at him and said he looked like a little "rat" because he was so small. Well, it stuck. He was known throughout Milam Co., as "Rat Locklin". I don't know exactly how tall he was, probably about 5'4" at the most. I know that his boot size was about a 5-1/2, as my Dad use to have a boot and saddle shop in Thorndale. He made at least one pair of boots for Granddaddy that I remember being around the house and I had already outgrown them. I would have liked to have been able to walk in the same boots that he had walked in. I guess it wasn't meant to be.
