Gary Ellsworth Ritchie

February 13, 1940 - March 21, 2014

Gary Ellsworth Ritchie, 74, of Waldport, OR passed away suddenly March 21, 2014 at home.

A celebration of Gary's life will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Salem, OR Elks Clubfrom 2pm-5pm.

Gary was born in McMinnville, Oregon to Thomas and Louise Ritchie on February 13, 1940. He graduated from McMinnville High School in 1958 and went on to receive both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Linfield College and Oregon State University.

Gary spent over 30 years as an educator and coach at South Salem High School, Cottage Grove High School, Corvallis High School, Crescent Valley High School, North Salem High School, McKay High School and finished his career at Willamette University. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, as well as time fishing and crabbing. Gary never knew a stranger and had so many friends that blessed his life.

Gary is survived by his wife Elizabeth Ritchie, his brother Marlyn Ritchie, sons Brent (Laura) Ritchie and Lance (Kori) Ritchie, daughters Michelle (Mike) Stoehr, Amy (Bart) Baldwin, Carole (Jimmy) Normandy, and Sally (Jeff) Curran, 19 Grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and another on the way. Gary was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a huge part of his family's lives and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Willamette Humane Society or the Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
